This website is created, maintained and managed by an informal group of local volunteers. The resources here are focused on what is available and/or useful to us here in the Nicola Valley of British Columbia, though the concerns and many materials may be more generally useful.
A personal message from "Volunteer #1"
2021 was a difficult year in Merritt with multiple overlapping emergencies - Covid-19, a "heat dome," a summer of forest fires, evacuation reception for Lytton after fire destroyed the town, then an "atmospheric river" of wet weather in the fall, a sudden river flood and full community evacuation of Merritt. At the same time we were all dealing with the regular life situations, but now made more complicated.
Time after time, I found that we could not easily find the information to manage everything without panic. Eventually, my acquired resources and knowledge began to spill over to others facing similar issues. However, these might not be one-off situations and we might need to find the information again. This website is an effort to organize essential and useful information that may help us cope with unexpected challenges and life changes.
Many thanks to all who are helping to identify topics, locate information, and add expertise to this online community resource. Suggestions and information can be sent to us here.
Sincerely,
Jean Kiegerl
